Those which used to be beyond reach before the invention of the airplane are now only a few days away. Lands which took years to be reached by colonial explorers are now saturated with foreigners from the West which, usually, do not share their culture, beliefs, and language. Yet, locals and expatriates alike mostly learn to live in peaceful co-existence, creating a mutualism of sorts; a type of interaction which benefits both parties involved.For locals, it is only a matter of dealing with individuals of a different race or demography. Unless locals are bigots by nature, getting along well or at least, getting along with expatriates is a given. Expatriates, themselves, are usually the ones who are most challenged in trying to adapt into a new environment and trying to understand people of a different set of values and traditions. It is not always easy being the foreigner . Being different , in the sense of the word, entails finding a place or a niche to belong to without fear of alienation. Moving to a new country does not only affect people's lives but also their psyche as it includes coping with culture shock and the separation from friends and loved ones. It might be especially hard for people who are used to routines and thrive on familiarity.
