Types of Visas

The eponym of the word "visa" is 'carta vista' which means "the document having been seen" in Latin. A visa, as mentioned earlier, serves as one's entrance to a certain country. Exceptions are present, but usually, a Visa is the single most important document needed to go abroad. A Visa can be presented as separate slips or irreverently stamped unto your passport, and the approval of Visa applications is what stands between a new horizon and what you want (or need) to leave behind. There are also countries, however, that do not just require an entry visa, but also an exit visa. Without the latter, you would not be able to leave the country.

Different Types of Visas When Moving

Visas may be issued first hand by either a consulate or a third party mediator who's authorized by your country of destination to grant Visas. During the absence of a consulate of a particular country in your home, you would need to travel to another country which has one. Issuance of a Visa would cost you a particular sum of money, and this depends on where you are heading. These costs include  payments for processing fees and the like.

There are many different types of Visas which could be issued. All however, fall into two distinct categories.

Immigrant Type Visas

Immigrant type visas are those which would allow you to apply for a permanent residence permit such as the United States' Green Card. Unmarried children below the age of 21 are granted dependent status if a parent with children below 18 years of age is issued with an immigrant Visa. Immediate relatives including children above eighteen of anyone who has been issued with an immigrant Visa are eligible for petition. Parent-child petitions are usually processed faster than petitions for other relatives, which could take decades to be approved. A spousal visa is a type of Visa that allows a legal spouse of a citizen to stay in a country.

Non-immigrant Type Visas

This type of visa is numerous - each one granted to cater a specific reason of entrance into a country. For those who will be working in another country, a working Visa is in order. There is also a temporary worker's visa which is granted to skilled workers or individuals of impressive educational attainment. In order to get a worker's permit, your employer usually has to submit a statement that there is no one else in the country you are heading which could do your job. This is why worker visas are usually granted to either those which possess technical skills or those in the managerial position.

The United States E-visa is an example of a business visa. A worker's visa should be in order before one is eligible for a business Visa. Only citizens of the United States' list of treaty trade nations could obtain an E-visa. The E-1 is a Treaty Trade Visa that allows one to trade but not to invest in the country, while the E-2 Visa is the Treaty Investor Visa that allows one to do both.

Another type of non-immigrant visa is the student's visa. This Visa could be used to study language in an actual country or pursue higher education. A tourist Visa could be granted to a casual traveler and is usually limited to stays ranging from 3 to 6 months. Other types of visa include:

*Transit visa: This visa is used for transient stays in countries such as during flight stop-overs.

*Diplomatic visa

*Journalist visa

*Courtesy visa: This special type of visa is issued to foreign dignitaries other than diplomats who enter a country.

*Working Holiday visa: This type of visa allows travelers usually of the 18 to 30-age range to work while on their vacation in order to supplement their globetrotting ventures.

There are many different types of visas that can be issued - depending on your needs. It should be second nature for someone who is planning to work in another country to get a working visa. For others, however, consult the embassy to be notified of eligibility requirements.
